Quiet Build is a one-person web design studio on Main Street in Ponteland, Northumberland. I build hand-coded websites from £1,000 for businesses in Morpeth, Hexham, Cramlington, Blyth, Alnwick and across the county, written to be found on Google and in AI answers. A local web designer, honest about where I have built and where I have not.
Ponteland is a Northumberland village with a Newcastle postcode, and I work from Main Street, inside the county rather than from a city office with a pin on a map. The build happens on a link you can open on your phone as it grows, so location matters less for that and more for the first conversation. I can be in Morpeth, Hexham or Cramlington inside the hour, and I would rather see how the business actually runs than guess from an email.
This is one page, not thirty. Most "areas we cover" pages are the same paragraph with the town swapped. Below are real distances, the work that exists and the gaps. The wider list is on Where we work →.
Road miles from Main Street, Ponteland, rounded, from OpenStreetMap routing data. The times are what I allow, a little over a free-flowing run, so add more at rush hour.
The south-east of the county. Cramlington is about 20 minutes from the studio and Blyth about 25. Go As You Please has a branch in Cramlington, and I have written a plain guide to what it means for business → about the AI Growth Zone at Cambois, near Blyth.
The county town, about 20 minutes away. Lots of independent shops, solicitors, accountants and trades, and most of their customers find them on a phone. No Morpeth client yet, and I would like one.
The Tyne Valley and Hadrian's Wall country, about 30 and 25 minutes out. Places to stay, galleries, shops and trades, most of them busiest in summer.
Alnwick is a 45-minute drive and an easy first meeting: a castle town with holiday lets, cafes and guides up the coast.
About an hour and a quarter. Further than I would drive for a quick coffee, so we start on a call and meet at a milestone. Same price, same process.
Home. The studio is on Main Street, and the web design in Ponteland page → covers the village and Darras Hall.

A brand-led website with animated project pages for a Ponteland interior design studio, plus an AI studio the team dictates quotes and content into.

A new name and a 35-page website for a family charitable trust funding grassroots causes across Tyneside and south Northumberland, with a short enquiry built in.
The third is Go As You Please →, an independent funeral director on Kenton Road in Gosforth with a branch in Cramlington. What is live there is a private operations hub that holds every case in one place, replacing WhatsApp, paper and spreadsheets, and the owner now runs his cases in it himself. It holds families' details, so I cannot show it to you.
That is the honest record, and none of it is yet in Morpeth, Hexham or Alnwick. When it is, it will appear here with a link you can open.
Northumberland runs on micro businesses. The county council counted 11,295 private sector businesses in 2025, and 89 per cent had fewer than ten people. It is also a visitor county: the visitor economy was worth £1.58 billion in 2025, with more than 11 million visitors, and food and drink made up 46 per cent of visitor spend.
Holiday lets, cafes, pubs and guides live on a summer peak. The site has to make the enquiry or booking obvious in two taps, keep prices and availability current, and use the booking tool you already trust rather than a new one I invent.
A joiner or plumber covering half the county is searched as "electrician Hexham" or "near me", not by name. That needs a Google Business Profile that matches the site, and one honest page naming real places and real jobs.
Project Gigabit in North Northumberland is a £7.3 million contract reaching more than 3,750 rural premises, so broadband is still catching up. I keep pages light until it does.
Quiet Build research read 428 local business websites in Ponteland, Darras Hall, Cramlington, Morpeth, Hexham, Corbridge and Alnwick on 15 October 2026. Only 9 lacked a mobile tag, but 86 had no search description and 129 showed no structured data on the homepage. They are not broken, they just do not explain the business to Google or ChatGPT. My websites start at £1,000, and most land between £1,000 and £2,500. That is five to fifteen pages, hand-coded, with the findability layer, tested and handed over, agreed in writing before work starts, and the same in Berwick as in Ponteland. Optional care starts at £250 a month.
For context, Quiet Build research read 106 web design and AI studio websites in Newcastle and Northumberland on 15 October 2026. Of the 61 that state a North East location, 21 publish a from-price for a website. The median is £500. Twelve of the 21 publish £500 or less, five sit between £501 and £1,000, and four are above £1,000. A start of £1,000 puts me above 15 of the 21, and 64 of the 106 sites publish no price at all.
So I am dearer than most, and I would rather explain why. The extra buys what a template cannot: code written for your business, not a plugin stack that breaks on update; a findability layer for Google and AI answers; your domain, hosting and code in your name; and one person from first call to handover. If you need a one-page site for a few hundred pounds, a template studio is a sensible choice and I will say so. The full breakdown is in the website cost guide →, and the Newcastle version is on web design in Newcastle →.
Twenty free minutes by phone or video, or in person within about 45 minutes. What the site is for and what you have. You leave with a price in writing.
Two to six weeks, shown to you on a phone link as it grows. I send a short list of photos and answers on day one, because those are usually the slowest part.
Domain, hosting, code and content in your name, with Search Console and your Business Profile connected before launch. Care afterwards is optional and monthly.
If the website is one piece of a bigger tangle, with enquiries in WhatsApp and quotes in a spreadsheet, start with a £500 Brain Map instead. The wider picture of what I build is on the websites → page.
With Quiet Build, from £1,000, and most sites land between £1,000 and £2,500, with the number agreed in writing before work starts. The price is the same in Berwick as in Ponteland. The median published from-price among North East studios is £500. The full breakdown is on the website cost guide →
Yes, for the first conversation. Hexham is about 20 miles and half an hour from Ponteland, Alnwick about 30 miles and 45 minutes. Berwick is about 59 miles, so we start on a call. The build itself happens on a link you can open on your phone, so most of it needs no meeting room.
Yes. A joiner or a holiday-let owner with customers from Alnwick to Hexham gets one clear page about the area covered, with real jobs and real places named, matched to the service area on your Google Business Profile. I do not build thirty near-identical town pages: Google treats them as doorway pages and quietly ignores them.
Yes: Aubury & Co in Ponteland, the 35-page Reece Family Trust site, and an operations hub for Go As You Please, a funeral director with a branch in Cramlington. I have no client yet in Morpeth, Hexham or Alnwick.
It is built to. Pages are light and images are compressed, with no heavy plugin stack, so a site stays usable on a weak rural signal. Rural broadband is improving but uneven, so I design for the slow case first.
Not for the build. What matters is that a real person answers the phone and turns up when it counts. Cramlington is about 8 miles from my desk and Blyth about 14, so either is a short drive. Call 07708 736149.
