Websites in Newcastle and the North East start from as little as £100, and the median published “from” price is £500. I read the websites of 61 studios and consultancies that state a North East base on 15 October 2026, and only 21 of them print a website price at all. Here is what the numbers mean, and what to ask before you pay.

The short version

Web design prices in Newcastle and the North East, from the studios’ own sites

Most price guides are written from memory. This one is counted. On 15 October 2026 I read the public websites of 106 web design studios, agencies and AI consultancies, and 61 of them state a North East location. For each, I recorded the lowest website price printed on their own pages.

Published “from” priceStudiosWhat the range looks like
£500 or less12From £100 for a single page up to £500. Most sit between £399 and £500.
£501 to £1,0005£599 to £1,000.
Over £1,0004Three studios from £1,500, one from £4,750.
All 21 that publish a price21Median £500.

Two cautions. These are starting prices, and several are for a single landing page or a bare template. And the other 40 North East businesses show no website price; across all 106 sites I read, 64 publish none, including some of the most frequent results in the searches I ran. So the table describes the studios willing to print a number, not the whole market.

Further north the picture holds: seven studios that state a base in Northumberland, Morpeth or Hexham publish a from-price between £250 and £1,500, with a median of £495. My own number for web design in Newcastle is further down.

How much does a website cost in the UK in 2026?

Outside the North East the pattern is similar. Duport, a UK web firm, puts a typical four or five page freelancer build at £1,200 to £2,000, in a wider range of £800 to £3,000, and agency builds at £2,500 to £10,000. DIY builders such as Wix are cheaper up front: Duport lists their plans at £13 to £22 a month. Bigger systems are covered in what an AI build costs.

A £399 site and a £1,500 site are not the same product with different margins. They are different jobs.

Website design cost in the North East: what actually changes the price

What you get at £300, £1,000 and £2,500 or more

This is my judgement from reading the sites, not a rule.

Around £300. Usually a template with your logo, colours and text dropped in. One to five pages. Fine for a sole trader who needs somewhere to send people. Expect to supply the words and photos, and check who owns the result.

Around £1,000. A designed site of roughly five to ten pages, with some help on the writing, image preparation, a tested contact form and basic search setup. This is where most owner-run businesses in Newcastle and Northumberland should start.

£2,500 and above. More pages, bespoke layouts, written content, a booking or payment flow, or a site that feeds a wider system. You are paying for more thinking, not just more screens.

A website price is only honest if it tells you what is left out.

Hidden costs: domain, hosting, email, copy and photos

Monthly website hosting and care cost in the North East

Eight monthly figures from six North East studios give a range of £15 to £99 a month, with a median of about £27. Examples include £20, £25, £29, £49, £69 and £99. One studio’s care plan is £69 a month on a rolling twelve month term, and another sells annual plans at £349, £649 and £1,299 a year.

Subscription websites also exist, from about £30 to £100 a month with no build fee. In my sample none of them states a North East base. They are cheap to start, but you are renting: stop paying and the site often goes. Check whether you can take it with you.

If you also want AI work, published prices start around £750 for an audit and reach £4,500 and more for larger projects. That is a separate decision from the website.

Red flags when you compare web designers

Where Quiet Build sits among web designer prices in Newcastle

I design and build websites from Ponteland, from £1,000, and most land between £1,000 and £2,500 for five to fifteen pages. Against the 21 published prices that is above 15 of them, level with two, and below four. It is a premium position and I would rather say so than hide it.

The extra buys three things. The site is hand-coded, so it is fast on a phone and has no plugin stack to break. It carries the findability layer: titles, structured data, a sitemap and AI-crawler rules, so Google and AI assistants can read it. And you own everything: domain, hosting account, code and content, in your name. If the website is part of a bigger tangle later, I can build a hub or automation around it, but that is optional. You can see the finished results in Aubury & Co in Ponteland and Reece Family Trust.

Care with me is optional and month to month, from £250 a month, well above the £15 to £99 range above. It covers hosting watched, one improvement a month and Search Console read for you. Plenty of owners do not need it. Details are on the websites page.

Questions to ask any web designer before you pay

  1. What is the total price, in writing, and what is not included?
  2. Who owns the domain, the hosting account and the code when it is finished?
  3. If I want to leave, what do I receive and in what format?
  4. Is there a monthly fee, how long is the term, and what does it cover?
  5. Who writes the words, and who supplies and prepares the photos?
  6. What search setup is included: titles, sitemap, structured data, Search Console?
  7. Will the site be checked on a phone, and how fast does it load?
  8. Can I see two live sites you built, and talk to the owner?

Is a £300 website worth it?
It can be, for a sole trader who will supply the words and photos. Check who owns the domain and hosting, and whether search setup is included, before you pay.
Why does Quiet Build start at £1,000 when many start lower?
Because the site is hand-coded, written to be found in Google and AI answers, tested, and handed over in your name. That takes more time than a template. I would rather explain the difference than discount it.
